I wanted to share a little something I loved yesterday. I think it’s really important to have little things around you that make you happy. I (finally) remembered to change the bulb in my Tiffany-style lamp yesterday and was really pleased to see it in the corner of my bedroom, glowing away last night.
This little lamp has always been a favourite of mine, and has found a home in my new bedroom again, I have sat it on top of my favourite and cherished books – would you believe ‘The AA Book of the British Countryside’ (or ‘the daisy book’ as I called it as a child) which I seriously would run back into the house to save if there was a fire. Also my much-loved Taschen book ‘Eden’ which Gary bought me a couple of years ago, full of Botanical drawings.
That little book is the ‘Nuttalls Bijou Dictionary’ which my Grandma gave to me in 1984 (can you see my scrawl). It had belonged to my great Aunt Winnie, I love the fact that she has signed her name and the date – 1905. I never met her, but feel a connection through knowing she wrote those words 109 years ago, at the beginning of the last century.
All had been missed for the lack of a bulb!
What little corner of your house gives you a lift when you remember? We must keep looking.
