Wonderful Alison from Heart Gallery, here in Hebden Bridge, has blogged about mine and Amanda Cox’s spot in Vogue this month. It’s a great post, with lovely pictures of our work, thank you Alison.
I just wanted to take a moment to mention Alison, and the fact that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the initial belief and continued support from her.
It was 2 years ago that I first made an appointment to see her, coming straight off the street with buggy, baby and NOT looking like a jewellery designer at all!
‘Hello, I was wondering if you would like to take a look the jewellery I have been making to see if it is suitable for the gallery. I live here in Hebden Bridge, am a full time mum, and have just started making jewellery.’ said I.
‘Sure, bring some along and I’ll take a look’ said Alison.
Incredible, really, as I certainly didn’t have the confidence to really sell myself properly, and had only been making jewellery about a month at that stage!
Alison saw my jewellery, liked it, and decided to give me a go, despite my lack of experience or training. I have have some of various of my collections in the Heart Gallery most of the time every since. This undoubtedly helped give me the confidence I needed to think ‘yes, I can do this’.
She has a fantastic eye, really champions the handmade cause, and delights on showcasing local talent wherever possible. There’s a lot of it in Hebden Bridge, too.
Heart Gallery is a really important part of Hebden Bridge, with both a loyal customer base and being a must for tourists, it is not for nothing that Alison has achieved ‘Best Newcomer in North and Scotland 2008’ retailer award, and been a finalist in ‘Best UK Jewellery Retailer 2009’.
