Re-jig for Spring

Posted on: Saturday, March 29, 2014

I’ve been doing lots behind the scenes in the last couple of weeks to improve my website I’d love you to take a look and let me know what you think.

I’ve changed some colours and fonts, and separated the jewellery by type in the menu to make it easier to get to say ‘earrings’ with just one click. I removed the slider, for now, too.

One of the main features I’ve been working on is a new ‘portfolio’ section. It’s a place to browse my previous commissions and photo shoots I have been involved with along with photos I have taken of things that inspire me. I’ve been selling online for 6 years now, and had my own website for 4, that’s a lot of images and designs that I have made! I really felt it was time to gather them all together in one place at last. It’s turned out to be a very cathartic process, and has helped me assess my priorities and where I want to be going next.

Oh, and my blog has had a little jig around too. I am hoping it all sits well with the rest of my website.

Next is new photographs of jewellery – and new jewellery!

Please let me know if you have any feedback about any parts of my website – did you find anything broken, was everything easier to find?

I hope spring has sprung where you are :)

New Tools

new tools 2014 2

I only use 3 pairs of pliers to make my designs, a trusty set of tools that I have used since I first started. I’m aware that there are many many kinds of pliers on the market, but when I first started I decided to see how I got on and not invest in too much equipment before I knew how to use it or what I wanted to use it for. Well, 5 years later and I decided it would be ok to buy some more. Extravagant, or what?!

I am most excited about my little wire-rounder. I hand finish my ear-wires with a file to take off the sharp edges. A fiddly job, and not my favourite, if I am honest. It’s such a cute little piece, I am looking forward to using it.

I’m really looking forward to using them. As I step up my ways of making jewellery to meet demand, I need to look at ways of making pieces more quickly and I think these will help me.

New jewellery in the Songs of the Sea Collection

Posted on: Wednesday, February 5, 2014

I’m just catching up with the flurry of new products that I made right at the end of 2013! Quite a few new designs have been launched on but I was so busy in November and December, I didn’t get time to shout about them!

I have been busy with ideas for my existing Songs of the Sea collection, and will be developing new designs to accompany some of the more successful jewellery pieces I already make.

New this winter is the Lundy necklace and earrings. I sourced some darling little solid brass lighthouse charms, and have combined them with a rich azure blue apatite stone and some freshwater pearls. For the earrings, I felt the brass lighthouses were a touch too big, so I’ve made a corresponding design with a rolled gold ring to echo the colours in the necklace. All the other metal is oxidized silver.

I have another design using a gorgeous little brass charm, called Seahorse. there are earrings and a necklace available on the website. Isn’t this little seahorse the sweetest?! I used green tourmaline rhodonite garnet and labradorite to accompany the little seahorse. I can imagine him hiding in the seaweed!

I only have a few of the tourmaline beads available, so I have made the earrings in 2 styles which you can choose from when ordering.

Again, the earrings don’t include the charm, but rather a rolled gold ring to pick up the colour.

Sea Shanty necklace, earrings and bracelet have always been popular, especially at Christmas and 2013 was no exception. I still have a number of the gorgeous peacock baroque pearls that really make this design left, although I am not sure I will be able to replace them again.

Cloudburst earrings with shades of grey labradorite, silver pearl and Swarovski  have been another design that I am often making and I’m pleased to say that they will be around for a while yet as I am not ready to stop making them!
