Busy Doing Nothing ~ Thoughtful Thursday

Posted on: Thursday, August 14, 2014

It’s vacation time for me. Three weeks of closed shops, and this year even an ‘out of office’ reply for my email (I’ve never done that before, feels very grown up!).

I’m not away the whole time, but I am ‘away’, but actually not because I’ve still been popping over to Pinterest (addicted, moi?).

So, anyway, what to do? I have to admit to finding it hard to switch off, my website-based musings and mental lists of stock to order, and orders to make has been replaced with other ideas of where am I going, new collection ideas, plans for up-coming events. So I haven’t really left it all behind, but they do say a change is as good as a rest. I hope so! Is this the curse of the ‘creative mind’ or the person who runs their own business? Well, as I’m both …

We’ve been having a wonderful time, going to the beach, crabbing, body boarding – let me tell you, I even bought myself my first wetsuit (I’m so NOT a sea-action person by nature), and introducing the dog to the sea was utterly hilarious, but it was great to catch an hour to myself in our fabulous log cabin this afternoon to lie on the sofa, read my Anthology magazine, and do, well… nothing. Except I wrote a blog post. Damn, almost!

I’m “on holiday” at the mo too and I’m the same as you, finding it hard to switch off. I’m still making new stock, tweaking my shops and website and updating things plus teaching a friend to torch enamel!

You do look like you’re having a great time at the log cabin though :D

      Ha! Not you, too?!
I think there is something to be said for ‘tinkering’ when you are ‘off duty’, after all, we are doing something we love, that started as a hobby for our job. I think that enjoying playing around like this gets you back to that, without the ‘job hat’ on :)
