I heard about a gorgeous bag company recently, the fact that they are called Scaramanga nearly sold me on it alone, if I’m honest. When I checked out their website I was delighted to see that they leather bags are gorgeous.
Now, I’m not really a bag person, and this is a problem. Because I don’t really love bags, I avoid committing to buying them and so when I do I invariably make the wrong choice and I do want to fall in love with the bag I buy.
However, I do like a good satchel, and I do love distressed / old / worn in things, but I have never taken the plunge and bought one.
I would have easily passed up the chance of a Scaramanga bag if I hadn’t get a tip from some photographer friends that they make great kit bags. Since upgrading my camera, I realised I really need something to keep it safe for going out and about, but I don’t want something that screams camera, or looks a bit naff, and the camera bags I have seen tend to. I checked Scaramanga out for a couple of months, no snap decisions here, and decided to ask Gary to get me one for my birthday.
I decided on the Flight Bag 2 and found a padded camera pouch by Koolertron which will protect the camera and an extra lens too. This is also the Flight Bag 1 which is a ‘portrait’ version of this bag with exactly the same dimensions, but felt it might be hard to reach into for grabbing a camera.
I love the distressed finish of this particular bag – it will never wear out, only wear in – and that suits my style, perfectly.
It is a size up from the size I would have ideally chosen, but I soon realised that I wouldn’t be able to get everything into the smaller one – and I would have descended into ‘bought the wrong bag’ hell all over again. Having bought the larger one, it is perfect, and alternatively I can use it as an overnight bag, too.
I have to report that we had our first outing today, and everything fitted in, with room for purse, phone etc, and the camera was accessible and safe, too. I’m sold!
