British Craft Trade Fair

Fantastic Hannah Nunn gave me a ticket for the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate last weekend, thank you so much Hannah! So off Rachel Lucie went to her first trade show…

I had a ball, for lots of reasons. Firstly, I got to have a family-free day (sorry, guys, I love you all dearly, but sometimes Mummy just needs a bit of SPACE!) with time to actually think whole complete thoughts about jewellery, design, my business, where I’m going (literally, too, I had to navigate and drive – testing, but I did a good job on my own).

Secondly, it was great to see the venue and get a feel for a proper trade fair, my first one. I would really like to exhibit there in 2011, and this was a great opportunity to see what is expected.

And finally because I got to chat to some great people. I met some old friends and locals whom I have met through etsy or Heart Gallery, got to introduce myself to others whose names I recognised from being in the Heart Gallery, and got to meet some jewellery designer/makers whose work I really admire.

Since I work from home and started my business on my own, I am only now beginning to meet crafts people and artists. There is no office chat or work community when you work from your kitchen!

Check out my picture of the selection of cards I brought back.

It’s too late for more now, I’ll be back tomorrow to show some of the designers I particularly liked….
